HRPO steel is produced by first hot-rolling steel at high temperatures, which forms a scale (oxide layer) on the surface. This scale is removed through the pickling process, where the steel is dipped in a solution of hydrochloric acid that dissolves the oxide. After pickling, the steel is treated with oil to prevent rusting during storage and transportation.

Characteristics of HRPO steel:

  • Improved surface finish: The pickling process removes imperfections, making the steel smoother and easier to work with.
  • Corrosion resistance: The oil coating adds a temporary layer of protection against oxidation and rust.
  • High strength and formability: HRPO steel retains the mechanical properties of hot-rolled steel, making it ideal for bending, forming, and welding.
  • Clean surface: The absence of scale makes HRPO steel easier to paint, coat, or process further.
