TMT bars are produced through a three-step process: Quenching, Self-Tempering, and Atmospheric Cooling. First, the hot-rolled steel is rapidly cooled (quenched), which hardens the outer surface while keeping the core softer and more ductile. This ensures a balance between strength and flexibility. The self-tempering process allows the inner core to remain at a high temperature, allowing the steel to form a tempered core structure. Finally, atmospheric cooling brings the entire bar to room temperature, locking in these properties.

Characteristics of TMT Steel:

  • High Strength: The unique manufacturing process creates a strong outer layer that increases the bar's tensile strength.
  • Ductility: TMT bars retain a soft core, allowing flexibility, which prevents cracks during bending or seismic activities.
  • Corrosion Resistance: TMT bars are less prone to rusting due to the absence of residual stresses in the surface.
  • Earthquake Resistance: The combination of strength and flexibility makes TMT bars ideal for structures in earthquake-prone areas.
  • Fire Resistance: These bars have a high thermal stability, allowing them to withstand temperatures up to 600°C.
